Day Five: A Day (and Night) at the Spa

Titus was born with jaundice, but the doctor wasn't too concerned and released us from the hospital on time, although we had to take him to the doctor to have his bilirubin levels checked each morning for the next three days. On Friday, his bilirubin level was still elevated, although the rate of increase had declined. We had to take Titus to the NICU at the hospital for photo therapy.

Of course, being first time parents, we were completely batty. Although jaundice is not a serious problem, we were still worried sick about having to go back to the hospital. Luckily, we were able to stay in the room with him - we were only able to take him out to feed him and change his diaper. My mom came to comfort and encourage us while we sat around and watched Titus bathe in the blue lights.

Titus spent a total of 24 hours under the lights and was released the next morning - he's doing just fine now - praise the Lord! So Titus spent a day and night at the spa, which cost us more than any spa I've heard of. As Nathan says - "Just because it's called a blue light special doesn't mean it's cheap!!!"

Hanging out under the lights - a day at the spa. Titus looked pretty cute in his mask.
